A Whitewater Kayak Instructor teaches individuals and groups basic paddling skills, river reading, and whitewater safety techniques. They also manage risks, provide feedback, plan instructional sessions, and ensure equipment and facilities are maintained. Successful instructors have experience guiding or instructing in moving water, hold relevant certifications (like CKC River Kayak Instructor), and demonstrate strong communication skills.

- Instruction: Teach fundamental paddling skills, techniques (e.g., rolling), and whitewater safety.
- River Reading: Guide students in understanding and interpreting river conditions and hazards.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with whitewater kayaking, ensuring safety.
- Planning & Execution: Develop and implement instructional plans, including private, group, and multi-day sessions.
- Communication: Effectively communicate with students, team members, and clients.
- Equipment & Facilities: Maintain and assess the condition of equipment and facilities.
- Feedback: Provide constructive feedback to students on their progress and performance.
- Certification: Maintain and potentially obtain relevant industry certifications.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in guiding or instructing whitewater kayaking.
- Certifications: Possess or be willing to obtain relevant certifications, such as CKC River Kayak Instructor, Swift Water Rescue, and First Aid/CPR.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Leadership: Ability to lead and manage groups effectively.
- Physical Stamina: Capable of handling the physical demands of whitewater kayaking.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to think critically and adapt to changing river conditions and situations.
